Largest NSRI division located at Cape Town harbour
The NSRI has achieved international acclaim for its abilities and past performance in providing volunteer-based emergency rescue services to the maritime industry as a whole. The largest vessel operated in the Western Cape is based at its national headquarters in the V&A Waterfront environs. Various additional stations support this facility.

OPBC has become a key part of the infrastructure
The OPBC slipway has become an integral component in the NSRI's emergency response system since it was established 26 years ago. Often, especially in the tourist-dense summer season, the V&A Waterfront precinct is clogged with vehicular traffic, making rapid arrival by response teams difficult. Consequently, the OPBC has become the favoured site for the launching and retrieval of the NSRI's fast-reaction rescue craft. Minutes saved at the beginning of a rescue can mean the difference between life and death.
